Dear Uncle John,
It is hard for me to think this is my last time writing to you. I choose to rejoice in our memories together. I remember being very young and you visiting Omaha. You gave me an orange football and played catch with me. I can clearly see the day and remember you saying I had a good arm and you telling my parents this. I remember you taking us to an alligator farm and exploring the birds. I remember you showing us the fire ants and telling us the story of the alligator that ate all the neighborhoods dogs. I still tell others about this. I remember you visiting me in Florida to watch me play ball. Most of all I will always remember and cherish the time I got to come visit you as an adult. I always loved and forever will love your adventures and stories. I am so thankful you wrote these and shared them with me. It is my promise to share them with my kids one day. I will share that you are an explorer. I will tell them what a happy and charismatic soul you are.
I may have not seen you ever year. But I am happy to and proud knowing you always were supportive. You always believed in me. Thank you Uncle John. I love you always.

I moved to Sarasota three years ago and reconnected with John and we had lunches until his final diagnosis. My freshman year at Augustana, John persuaded me to join the wrestling team and fraternity. Upon graduating, John interviewed my for an accounting job, but I had already joined the Marine Corps. Very nice knowing you, John

My heart and prays go out to Caryl(John’s wife) , Dawn and Kim (John’s children) , and all the extended family and friends. John was my big brother , my only sibling . He never quit being my ‘big brother’ even when I had retired and had 10 grandkids . Always giving me direction and advise . I think that was his way of showing love . In the last couple months of his life ,we did start saying ‘love you’ at the end of our phone call. That was foreign to both of us but I am really glad we did . He was a wonderful person and will be missed by many Love you John. Betsy
