Charles Murray Cullity, 91, originally from Hamilton MA, passed away on March 11th after a brief illness. He was a long-time resident of Weymouth MA and Venice FL, and briefly lived in Sarasota the past two years. Born on September 11, 1930, he was the 2nd youngest of nine children. He was the son of A. Helena (Murray) Cullity and Joseph John Cullity. His death marks an end to a Cullity family generation as he is the last sibling to pass from strong Irish Catholic household. Predeceasing him were his sisters Ruth, Jean, Grace, Rita, Marylou, Ann, Eloise and his brother John. He was married for many years to the love of his life, Nancy (O’Donnell) of Weymouth, MA who predeceased him in 2015. Although they had no children of their own, he is survived by 17 nieces and nephews, mainly in the New England and New York area, as well as several relatives of Nancy.
He served in the US Navy as a young man, which shaped his lifelong deep patriotism. After the Navy, he returned to Massachusetts and worked in various areas of law enforcement including the DMV, until he retired. His Catholic faith was a mainstay throughout his life. While a wicked Irish temper and lack of patience got the best of him at times, he was a good man, remembering his nightly prayers, fretting about his loved ones and occasionally donating to St Jude’s Hospital.
Charles was known for his love of Boston College football, the Boston Red Sox and Miller Genuine Draft beer! He was an avid golfer, great storyteller of his golfing days as a long-time member of the Ponkapoag Golf club in Canton, MA. He had several hobbies over the years, and coin collecting, mostly wheat pennies, was one that he thoroughly enjoyed.
