I was very saddened today to find out that Joyce had passed away a few years back. I went to school with her from Kindergarten through at least 6th grade and I think we must have both also gone to Blake and Webb together before I moved to Austin, TX back in '86. As it happens Joyce had a very strong impact on my life. She was my very first crush back in Kindergarten. I'd never seen an Asian girl before and she was the prettiest girl I had ever seen. I was shy and I never actually told her I liked her. However I have always been proud to tell people that my first crush was a girl of another race because I've always been proud to be an open minded, unprejudiced person. I think my appreciation of Joyce opened my mind to all the different forms of beauty from around the world and not just girls but cultures, religions, music, literature, movies, and art. My tastes have always been very eclectic. I've never lost my appreciation for beautiful Asian women and have been married the last 14 years to my lovely wife from the Philippines. I looked for Joyce online for many years on Myspace, FB, etc., but never found her. I always looked forward to letting her know she was my first crush, since I never told her. I'm sure I've told people 100's of times that my first crush was a Japanese American back in Kindergarten. I'm so sorry for everyone close to her about this loss.

Dear Okamoto's & Sean, May you find comfort in happpy memories that will never fade...and in the sympathy of those who care. Friends are hard to find and I'm so greatful that Joyce was one of them. Her friendship with Gina & Jana was very special and because of Joyce is why they are in my life as two of the best friends ever! Joyce was a giving person always and I'm so thankful for her friendship and sharing her friends with me. She was a Angel sent from heaven and now an Angel with wings! I will miss her with all my heart!

Dear Sean and the Okamoto Family, I have no words that can express the deep sorrow we feel. My heart is breaking for you all. My wish is that you all find some comfort and peace in those around you and hold tight to each other. Joyce was blessed with an infectious personality - you just wanted to be around her. She always had a smile on her face and we are all very lucky to have our lives touched by her in some way. Our love and prayers are with you all and if we can do anything for you and your family, please let us know. To be able to bear even a little bit of this burden for you and your family would be the greatest of all honors. Warm, kind, generous, thoughtful, loving, inspiring, influential and unselfish; Joyce, we will miss you. Love, Christine, Steve and Sarah Lanigan
