Obituary of Anna Fairley
Anna Fairley (née McLaughlin) age 92 of Venice, FL passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024. Anna grew up in Glasgow, Scotland. She emigrated to New Jersey at 17 years old then in 1988 she retired in Englewood, Florida before moving to Venice, Florida in 2012.
Born to humble beginnings as the youngest of five in Glasgow, Scotland, Anna set her sights on America from an early age. She bravely set sail on a solo voyage at 17 years old to begin her American dream. Upon arrival in New Jersey, she met and married her Scotsman, Jimmy Fairley. They had a beautiful daughter, Pam, on May 8th, 1957, and a year later a son, Ian, who died at birth.
Anna was an avid golfer. She golfed at Myakka Pines with her husband, Jimmy, for over 20 years and loved a wee gamble at the casinos. She also loved to embark on cruises with close friends and family.
After Jimmy’s passing in 2008, and then her beloved daughter Pam’s passing in 2012, she bravely made a new home for herself at Village on The Isle in Venice, FL. It was here that she made such close friends that she would grow to love and call family.
Upon arrival in the US, she juggled many jobs, including working as a waitress. She later worked as a bank teller. She always dreamed of being an air hostess but that never ‘took off’.
She is survived by Nephew James (Jim) McLaughlin and his wife Ann, who live in Lincolnshire, England. Their daughters are Leanne and Hayley. Leanne and her family also live in Lincolnshire, while Hayley and her family reside in Los Angeles, CA. Niece Fiona Fairley, her son Cameron, and family live in South Ayrshire, Scotland. Her daughter Rachel and family live in Bishopton, Scotland.
Anna is preceded in death by her loving husband, James ‘Jimmy’ Fairley. Their daughter Pamela, with whom she shared a deep bond. Her son, Ian, who passed in childbirth. Her mother, Bridget “Bride” McLaughlin, whom she loved deeply, and her father James “Bobs” McLaughlin. Her five older siblings; Thomas, Patrick, William, James (Jim), and Ellen.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 26th, at Trinity Presbyterian Church - 4365 State Rd. 776, Venice FL 34293
