Obituary of Jeanette Mae Hanchey-Flokstra

It is with great sadness that we share that Jeannette Mae Hanchey-Flokstra went to be with the Lord on March 3, 2024. She was born on February 6, 1932, in Morristown, NJ. She moved to the Venice-Nokomis area in 1967. Jeannette along with her second husband Herb Hanchey owned B&J Dragline Land Developer and through this, they were able to assist in the development of the South County YMCA and many other non-profit organizations. Jeannette was active in civics, especially the YMCA. She served as a lifetime board member.

Jeannette married Fred Flokstra in August of 2002. They spent their summers at their cabin on Spring Lake about 20 miles north of Duluth, MI. They had many wonderful years of travel and enjoying life. They were members of the Venice Church of The Nazarene.

Jeannette is preceded in death by her first husband Richard Grogan; second husband Herb Hanchey; and third husband Fred Flokstra in January of 2024.

Jeannette is survived by her son Steve (Helen); two grandchildren Steve (Wendy) of South Carolina, and Jennifer of St. Petersburg; two great-granddaughters; brother Richard of Florida; and sister Cheryl Hencye of Tennessee.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date and her remains will be inurned in a niche at Venice Memorial Gardens.
