Carol Dippolito

Obituary of Carol Marie Dippolito

Carol Marie (DeLaunay), Dippolito 86, of Englewood, FL, formerly of Poland, NY passed away on February 21, 2024. Carol was born on November 17, 1937, in the Bronx, NY to Arthur and Helen (Reed) DeLaunay and joined her older sister, Barbara. She married her husband Angelo and raised her three children Michael, Diane, and Richard in Armonk, NY.

Carol was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church since she began vacationing in Englewood, eventually moving there in 2020. Her strong faith and love of the Lord led to her many volunteer opportunities and spending each morning reading the Bible at her kitchen table.

Carol was a strong woman who was fiercely independent. Originally working for the FBI, Carol later joining the Bedford Hills Correction Center in an administrative role after raising her three children. When she learned that there was a more challenging position open as a corrections officer, she decided that was the role she wanted. Carol served in the correctional system for many years eventually moving to her long-time home in Poland, NY where she continued her role as a corrections officer at the Mohawk Correctional Facility. There she was affectionately known as “Grandma” and demanded the respect and admiration of the inmates.

Carol loved the outdoors. She joined the Tramp and Trail Hiking Club and spent many happy hours with life-long friends who became more like family. She enjoyed many adventures biking, hiking, skiing, and kayaking in the Adirondacks. She loved to host the 4th of July event that included river tubing, kayak and barbecue at her home and made sure to invite her family to join.

More than anything else, Carol loved her family. There was never a birthday or holiday that went by that her children and grandchildren did not receive a card from her. Although her family was spread out over the country, Carol made every effort to take time and visit them in New Jersey, Georgia, Alaska, Seattle, and Michigan. Even though Carol was divorced, she maintained a strong relationship with her former husband Angelo (Andy), spending many New Year holidays celebrating his birthday with family.

In addition to her parents, Arthur and Helen, Carol is predeceased by her daughter, Diane Megargle in 2022. Carol will be greatly missed by her family especially her sons Michael (Amanda) Dippolito of Ringoes, NJ and Richard (Kelly) Dippolito of Chicago, Il; son-in-law Russ Megargle of Ellensburg, WA; six grandchildren Michael Dippolito of Ringoes, NJ, Thomas (Michaela) Megargle of Ellensburg, WA, Britten (Zach) Gregor of Brighton, MI, Michael (Lucy) Megargle of Croydon, Australia, Kaitlin (Michael) Dippolito of Menomonie, WI, and Kristin Dippolito of Richmond, VA; nine great-grandchildren: Tobias, Ara, Peter, Gemma, and Daniel Megargle, Uriel, Eden, and Francisco Gregor, and Maximillian Megargle; sister Barbara Mead of Tampa, FL;former husband, Angelo Dippolito of Flemington, NJ, sister-in-law Louise(Dippolito) Salerno of Fishkill, NY; and several nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends.
