Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Forsberg

Mary Elizabeth Forsberg, 95, passed away on January 20, 2024, in North Port, FL. She was born on February 6, 1928, in Opelika, AL to Henry and Eugenia Boner.

She graduated from Opelika High School in 1946 and attended nursing school at Auburn University.

She started her nursing career at Lee County hospital and continued working at St. Lukes in St.

Paul, MN, and War Memorial in Berkeley springs WV among others,

She also graduated with honors from Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) in the mid

1980's and received an associate degree in IT. Mary even got Bill Gates to come and speak to her DPMA group when she was the group’s President.

Mary married her husband David Gordon Forsberg in 1964 and assumed the role of an Army wife until 1979. As such, she assisted her husband in his career, receiving many accolades while serving as president of the DPMA, member of the gourmet club, Red Cross chapter president and valued member of the “Casemates” at Fort Monroe, VA. It was here that her beautiful singing voice landed her lead role as Reno Sweeny in Cole Porters, “Anything Goes”. She traveled to many places and Army Posts including Korea. In 1974 she and her husband built a permanent home in WV, and a second home in FL 30 years later.

Mary enjoyed bowling and was in a bowling league. She had the gift of gab and loved to socialize whenever she could. She also enjoyed books, boating, water-skiing, gardening, driving, and playing cards. Most importantly she enjoyed laughter!

She will be remembered as a valued member of the community and a loving wife and mother.

Mary is predeceased by her mother and father, and two sisters, Catherine Cherry, and Laura

Weldon, Mary is survived by her husband, David and two children, Ashley (Julie) Forsberg living in Lansing, MI and George Forsberg in Alexandria, VA.
