Obituary of Julius Orban

Julius Orban of North Port, Florida passed away after a lengthy illness on January 22, 2024 at the age of 84. Born in Budapest, Hungary in 1939, Julius came to the United States in 1956 at age 17. His first job was laying asphalt while earning his citizenship. In the 1960s, Julius enlisted in the U.S. Army, performing electrical maintenance on missile stations in Germany during the Vietnam era.

After returning to civilian life, Julius followed this path, working in the electrical industry while earning a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rochester. He eventually built a career first in this field, then in marketing, over stops in upstate New York, central Illinois, Atlanta, and St Louis. Earning his MBA from Maryville University in 1986, Julius moved into the executive suite, culminating in his role as President of Distribution Control Systems, Inc. in Hazelwood, Missouri.

Julius retired in 2001, living in Estero and North Port, Florida. Throughout his life he maintained an interest in an eclectic variety of subjects, ranging from classical and jazz music to military history, as well as a lifelong interest in sports, from his youth as a boxer and competitive ping-pong player, to an avid golfer, to following his beloved New York Yankees and Giants.

Julius is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Dorothea (nee Abbiati); son David (Teresa) Orban, grandsons Andrew (Erin) Orban and Jacob Orban, sister Katalin Szekely, nephew Imre (Kinga) Szekely and niece Szilvia Szekely.

A memorial service will be held at Farley Funeral Home in Venice, Florida on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
