Obituary of William B. Grubb, M.D.

William “Bill” B. Grubb, M.D., age 88, of Sarasota, FL, passed away on January 24, 2024. Bill was born in Illinois and graduated from Decatur High School. He received his pre-medical education at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana and graduated from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He then had 4 years of post-graduate medical education in Surgery and Radiology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

He served as a Captain in the United States Air Force for 2 years and a physician and radiologist at Mather Air Force Base, Sacramento, California during the Vietnam War.

He practiced the specialties of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine in Appleton, Wisconsin for 29 years where he served as President of the St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Staff, President of the Outagamie County Medical Society, Chief of a 15 man Radiology group, member of the Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society and member of the Board of Directors of St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was one of the founding members of St. Elizabeth Hospital Foundation and served on its Board of Directors. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin State Radiological Society, He was a Clinical Assistant Professor of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin Medical School.

He was a member of multiple medical organizations including the American Medical Association, the State Medical Society of Wisconsin, Wisconsin State Radiological Society, and the Society of Nuclear Medicine and was elected as a Fellow of the American College of Radiology. He was a member of the Butte des Morts Country Club in Appleton, Wisconsin for 32 years, serving on many committees and was elected to the Board of Directors for 12 years and served as President. Bill was also a member of Kiwanis International.

He was a property owner in the Meadows and a member of the Meadows Country Club since 1983. Bill became a year-round resident of the Meadows in 1999. He served on the Board of Directors of the Meadows Country Club for 4 years and was President for 2 years. In 2015, he moved to The Fountains in Sarasota. Bill served as President of Sun and Surf Colony and a member of The Military Officers Association of Sarasota. He attended First Congregational United Church of Christ, Sarasota and has served on church committees and the Board of Deacons.

Surviving family members include his wife, Pat, of 67 years; daughter Linda Tucker (Hugh); daughter in law Tami Grubb; grandchildren Brian Tucker (Lindsay), Kimberly Tucker, Samantha Grubb, and Will Grubb; great grandchildren Eli Tucker and Jasper Tucker.

Bill was preceded in death by his son, Jeff, in 2014.

A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Sarasota on Monday, January 29th at 1 PM.
