Elaine Tyburski

Obituary of Elaine Tyburski

On Monday, December 4th, Elaine Tyburski passed away peacefully after a 5-week battle with sepsis.  She was 87.  Born to Mabel and Free Lee in Brooklyn, NY, the youngest of four children.

An avid reader and nature lover, she attended Brockport College, receiving a degree in Biology and Teaching. She taught at East Islip Middle School for 30 years. Later, Elaine received a Master’s degree from Columbia University.

At the age of thirty, she took a sabbatical, traveling and studying in Sweden. It was there she discovered her fascination and love of weaving. In the years to come, producing many extremely complex and beautiful pieces on her full-sized loom. Taking trips around the country leaning new teaching techniques and meeting like-minded friends.

Predeceased by her loving husband, Stanley Tyburski.  They traveled the world together and skied whenever possible.

Her thirst for adventure and knowledge was sated by countless Road Scholar programs. Traveling to the Galapagos Islands, Easter Island, Machu Pichu, and many other destinations.  Elaine had a deep love for Alaska where she went zip-lining and visited several times.

On her later years, her biggest joy was her papillon, Foxy Lady, who was often seen on Elaine’s walker keeping a watchful eye.

Elaine is survived by a nephew, Bernard T. Case, niece Susan C. Jannou and a niece-in-law, Georgia Tyburski, a great niece Rebacca C. Jannou and other great nieces.

No services are scheduled. Donations may be made to Selby Gardens or the Audubon Society.
