Margaret Somma

Obituary of Margaret Louise Somma

Margareta Luise Somma, a resident of the Gardens of North Port, entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior on November 25, 2023. Margaret was born on January 26, 1936, in Manhattan, NY.

Margaret was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She was preceded in death by her parents Frieda Hasenmaier and Anton Morlock, brother Karl and sister Christine.  She is survived by her husband David, sons David, Peter and Richard, daughters-in-law Liz, Lei and Dianne, granddaughter Rebecca and husband Tim, grandson David, and great-grandson Gabriel and many nieces and nephews.

Margaret graduated from Girls High School in Manhattan, NY, then started working at Bankers Trust Company as a secretary.  She met the love of her life, David Somma, married and started a family in Brooklyn, NY, where they lived for several decades.  November 30, 2023, would have been their 60th wedding anniversary.  After raising her children, Margaret returned to work in various secretarial roles but found that she really loved her job when she began to work at St. Vincent’s Services, an arm of Catholic Charities in Downtown Brooklyn, NY.  She loved working with the department that serviced a home for boys.  When Margaret retired, she and David moved to Hawley, Pennsylvania, where they lived for 20 years before moving to North Port, Florida, in 2019.

Margaret had a quiet, gentle personality. She was a faithful Sunday school teacher for decades. Margaret touched the lives of many people and was loved not only by her family but many lifelong friends as well as her Sunday School students. She was a prayer warrior who spent many nights on her knees praying for her family and friends. She had a great impact on so many through her kind words, thoughtfulness, and prayers.

Margaret loved flowers, crocheting, baking cookies for her grandkids, and baking her Christmas Stolen.  She adored her three sons.  She made sure to have daily devotionals with them every morning before sending them off to school.
