John McLoud

Obituary of John F. McLoud

It is with profound sadness that the family of John “Jack” Francis McLoud announce his peaceful passing on November 12, 2023, at the age of 85 years. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend, and valued veteran.

John was born in Boston, MA to Mary Scannel and John McLoud on September 6, 1938. He spent his early years in Dorchester growing up with his brother, Kenneth, and his sister Phyllis (Leavitt).

After high school John started his career at The Boston Globe, which he was a dedicated worker for over 40 years and a part of the Boston Mailer’s Union Local #1. While working at The Boston Globe, he was also a member of the National Guard, serving 10 years and an active member of the Venice, FL Moose Lodge 1308.

He met the love of his life, Catherine (Sullivan), in 1955 and went on to spend the next 60 years together.

John and Cathy went on to have 5 children, Donna, Karen, John, Christopher, and Scott. For 43 years, they lived in Plymouth, MA, raising and expanding their family. John eventually retired in 2000 and split his time between Venice, FL and Plymouth, MA. He permanently moved to Venice in 2021.

John loved coaching his son’s baseball games; it was a passion of his that he fondly spoke of often. He was an avid sports fan of the Patriots and Red Sox- game days will never be the same without John.

John loved going to Plymouth Waterfront to watch the band concerts. He loved spending his days lounging by his pool and tending to his yard. He loved his Dunkin Donuts coffee and Frank Sinatra. Johns’ retirement years were filled with days at Sharky’s and North Jetty Beach with a Pina Colada in his hand.

John was predeceased by his wife, Catherine. Surviving family members include daughters Donna Selig (Michael) and Karen McLoud (Kevin); sons John McLoud (Karen), Christopher McLoud (Sherry), and Scott McLoud (Nancy); grandchildren Richard Barufaldi, Marissa Reardon, Abigail Barufaldi, Joseph Barufaldi, Amanda McLoud, Kailey McLoud, Ryan McLoud, Chistopher McLoud Jr., Courtney McCormack, Sean McLoud, Scott McLoud Jr., and Jordan McLoud; great grandchildren Faye Reardon, Cora Reardon, Mia Quinn, Emmy Barufaldi, and Cameron Barufaldi.

John was friendly, kind, humble, and sweet. He was generous and warm and had a way of making you laugh, even when he wasn’t trying to.

He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them- and if you knew him, you knew it. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and full of love for those who went before him. He will be missed dearly every day.

A visitation will be at Farley Funeral Home, Venice, on Saturday, November 18 from 10:30-11:00 am with a service from 11:30-12:30pm. A burial will follow at Venice Memorial Gardens.

“May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face. And rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of His hand”.
