Obituary of Nicholas A. Kavounas

NICHOLAS A. KAVOUNAS of Nokomis, FL (formerly Allentown)

I am heartbroken to announce the peaceful death of my husband, “Nick” KAVOUNAS at the age of 82 after two years of various illnesses. His loving family surrounded him.

He was my perfect husband for 63 years after 4 years of teenage dating. Truly a marriage made in heaven. He will be missed by so many people. Everyone loved him and described him as a very positive, affectionate, upbeat, caring, person, who put joy into everyone’s heart. As one friend said, “Nick was probably the most positive and best natured man that I have ever met.”

Nick was born in Reading, PA to Father Stelios Kavounas and Mother Katie Werner. When he was 14, he moved to Allentown where his father opened The Peter Pan Diner.

Nick graduated, as Class President, from Parkland High School. It was at this school where Nick met his future wife Cathy.

Nick’s career path included selling insurance, many years of selling cars, managing dealerships, and eventually owning The Car Store. Later, he joined wife Cathy in ownership of Coldwell Banker Heritage Real Estate & Associated Abstract Title Company, which they have operated for 45 years.

He also served as the President of the Bethlehem Board of Realtors and was on the team that united three boards into one- The Greater Lehigh Valley Association of Realtors.

Nick was an avid golfer and loved all kinds of sports including Nascar, baseball, and football (Eagles, Bucs, Penn State, Phillies). He also loved to travel all over the world. He and Cathy visited 6 continents, 54 countries, and all 50 states.

Mr. Kavounas was an active member of Venice Presbyterian Church where he worked with children in Buddy Break, Brookside Country Club in Macungie, and Mission Valley Country Club in Florida.

Nick is survived by wife Cathy (Plarr), The Love of his Life, Son Nick C and wife Janice, Daughter Kim Roth and husband Mark, 3 grandchildren (whom he adored), Cameron Roth and wife Mallory, Alexis Krieger and husband Cameron, and Alexander Kavounas and wife Lauren, and two great-grandchildren, Riley Rose Krieger and Jonathan Nicholas Kavounas, and brother Thomas Kavounas and wife Joyce.

He is predeceased by parents, granddaughter, Melissa Kavounas, brother Alex Kavounas, and Brother Rudy Walenta.
