Obituary of Richard B. Larson

 Richard B. Larson, 84, of Englewood, FL, passed away on October 14, 2023 at Maris Pointe Assisted Living in Venice, FL. Dick was born to Carl and Lois Burnham Larson in Newton, MA. He was a resident of Wakefield, MA before moving to Worcester. He resided in Englewood, FL since 2005. He leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Kathleen, and his brother, Joel Larson. A graduate of Bates College, Dick received a Master’s degree from Springfield College. He earned a PhD from Clark University. He was employed with the YMCA in Worcester and was instrumental in establishing the “Youthmobile Program” in Pittsburg, PA. His great, great grandfather, Capt. Thomas V. Sullivan, started the first YMCA in the U.S. Dick established Larson Associates as a Human Resource Consulting Firm in the Central MA area. He was co-founder of the Central MA ASTD and also served on the Board of Directors at the Worcester Public Library. He taught classes at Assumption College and received the President’s Award for his accomplishments there. After retiring and moving to Englewood, Dick was active in the Red Cross Blood Drives, the Florida YMCA Retirees Connection and the Polynesian Village Board of Directors. He and Kathleen volunteered at senior centers and nursing homes with their “Earl and Pearl” entertainment shows, with Dick playing the ukulele. Dick was an outdoorsman, sailing the waters of Buzzards Bay and Narragansett Bay with Kathleen aboard their boat “The Gypsy Rover” from the Long Cove Campground in R.I. He also enjoyed fishing, kayaking, photography, and snowshoeing. He and Kathleen traveled to Greece, Italy, Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, Maritime Canada, and down the Mississippi River. There are no services planned at this time. Donations may be made in memory of Dick to a charity of your choice.
