Obituary of Heide Jaeger Drum

Heide Jaeger Drum of Venice, Florida passed away on May 18, 2023.  She was born in Germany on March 11, 1939 and moved to the U. S. and became a U.S. citizen. After raising two children attended Ohio University, graduating with a degree in interpersonal communications. Heide's business positions in Portsmouth, Ohio included director of marketing at Portsmouth Bank and executive director of the Portsmouth Convention & Visitors Bureau.

   She moved to Venice FL in 1992 and with husband Ken started Venice Wine & Coffee Company in historic downtown Venice.  They sold the business and retired in November 2010. During her tenure at the wine and coffee bar Heide became well-known for the wonderful food and soups served there at lunch and for the wine and food pairings at the popular wine tastings. She authored two cookbooks with recipes for the food and wine pairings which became "best sellers." Heide & Ken led 12 wine trips for wine shop customers to several California wine areas that produced many deep friendships and great memories.

   Ever a trail blazer, Heide was the first female member of the Venice Sunrise Rotary Club and enjoyed the attention and notoriety of that achievement. After retirement Heide & Ken enjoyed many trips and cruises that they didn't have time for while operating the business.  They also became long-time drivers delivering Meals on Wheels.

   Heide is survived by husband Ken, two children, Kristina Massie Streeter (Brian) of Napa CA, and Marc Massie (Laurie) of Newport, RI; five grandchildren (Emma, Ben, Kaitlyn, Connor, Christopher); three step-children (Jeff, Debbi and Jason); six step-grandchildren, a great granddaughter and her ex-husband Harold Massie of Portsmouth, Ohio.  Also, her brother Rolf's children in Germany, niece Bettina Traiser and nephew Titus Jaeger.

   Heide's family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Venice Green Village memory care facility and the Continuum Hospice nurses for their professional and compassionate care over the past years, months and days.

   Funeral arrangements are being handled by Farley Funeral Home and a celebration of life with family and friends will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the Waterford Sports Club, 1454 Gleneagles Drive in Venice from 1:00PM – 4:00PM.  A message of condolence may be sent by visiting www.farleyfuneralhome.com.
