To Mom
You were born into a world of uncertainty where love was hard to find.
Through it all, still you blossomed with a compassionate and virtuous mind.
You defied all the odds of what was meant to be.
Only you had the strength and courage to let yourself be free.
You found love, trust, and family in an unexpected way.
Freddy knew you were the one and needed you to stay.
I watched you and Dad on an old film reel having a playful snowball fight.
It was a beautiful glimpse into a courtship so sweet and so right.
You made Freddy a husband and you walked together through a colorful life.
You were strong and resilient as an individual , loving and caring as a wife.
You were a loving mother and trusted friend from the very start.
You always gave me comfort and you always gave me your heart.
By natural default you became Nonna , the designated gifter.
Your grandson loves you and tells me , "Dad, I miss her".
There are no perfect mothers but you will always be my choice.
I only wish I had another chance to talk to you, to hear your tender voice.
