Obituary of Winifred O'Loughlin

Winifred O’Loughlin

October 17, 1933 – November 15, 2022

Winnie, 89, of Venice, FL passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a long battle with IPF. She was born in Jersey City, NJ to Scottish & Irish immigrants, Margaret Law & Patrick Moran. Winnie was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She raised three beautiful daughters before her marriage to Thomas O’Loughlin in 1967. They continued to raise the girls together and spent many summers at the Jersey Shore and Cranberry Lake. Her and Tom celebrated 50 years of marriage before he passed away in 2017.

After many years of office work, Winnie retired in 1988 from Operating Engineers Local 825 in NJ. She then spent the next 13 years of retirement in Colorado being a full time Nana to her three Colorado grandchildren and the many neighborhood families who adopted her as their own Nana. She earned real retirement when she and Tom settled in Venice, FL in 2001. Winnie was always an avid reader and very active in the library at Venice Isle Estates. With the help of many, the library was revamped making it a great source of pride for the “Libra Librarian”, as she was referred to. She would often spend hours sorting books, moving shelves, and sharing her love of books with others. While at Venice Isle, she enjoyed participating in the many special Holiday gatherings, community cookouts, playing Bingo & cards, and was active in the Red Hat Sorority but the library was her greatest passion. Winnie also enjoyed updating the family tree. Although time consuming, she enjoyed every minute of it and loved sharing information and stories with everyone!

Winnie always immersed herself in the local community and that continued as she transitioned into assisted living at Tuscan Gardens in Venice, FL. She loved her new lifestyle with tablemates to enjoy meals together, social activities all day, shopping outings, while still reading books with an occasional chocolate treat.

Winnie is survived by Daughters: Millie (Larry) Toscano, Maureen Smith, Marilyn Johnson (Jerry Sexton), Siblings: Margaret Goley, James Moran, Grandchildren: Eric (Kelly) Toscano, Lara (Channing) Smith, Kyle (Crystal) Johnson, Korine (Jason) Jones, Kelse Johnson, Great Grandchildren: Chloe, Lilah, & Jalyn Smith, Hayden Toscano, Austyn & Jordan Jones, and many nieces, nephews, family & friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Tom, her siblings, Patrick Moran, Michael Moran, & Mary Shahpazian.

A private family service will be at a later date where she will join Tom at the Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to “Reading is Fundamental” on her behalf. https://www.rif.org

Her smile and wit will be missed by all, but she has earned her angel wings and is at rest never having to remember a password again ~ Amen!
