Obituary of Donna Merena

Donna Merena “Danka” formerly of Hopatcong, and Clifton, N.J. has passed away suddenly at the young age of 68 in North Port, FL during Hurricane Ian.

Resided in Hopatcong, N.J. for 20 years and prior in Clifton, N.J for 25 years as the owner of Figlans Liquor Store. Born in Bydgoszcz Poland, she came to America in the mid 1970’s and worked at the “Zodiak Klub” where she met her husband George, they were married for 41 years. Donna and her husband loved vacationing in the Caribbean and traveling to Poland to visit loved ones.

Donna is survived by her husband George of North Port, FL, her mother Urszula Baniewicz, her sister Bogumila and her husband Jerzy Szopinski whom all are residing in Galloway Township, N.J. She is also survived by her favorite niece Dagmara, and her husband Mark Pagliaro and their two children in North East, Maryland. As well as by George’s sister Lidia and mother Maria Merena of North Port, FL.

She is preceded in death by her father Bronislaw Baniewicz her favorite nephew Peter Szopinski, and grandniece Katherine Szopinski.

A Memorial Gathering will be held in Donna’s honor at Farley Funeral Home in North Port, FL on Friday, October 14, 2022 from 5pm to 7 pm with a Prayer Service at 6pm.
