Obituary of Joseph O'Connor

Joseph Gerard O’Connor, or Joe for those who knew him well, passed away on August 9th, 2022.

He was born on April 26, 1937, in Queens, New York to Dennis and Nora O’Connor, and was one of eight children.

Joe proudly served his country in the United States Navy, serving on the USS Canisteo A099. He later relocated to Florida from St. James, New York. During his down time, Joe enjoyed golfing, reading, fishing, boating and watching NASCAR. He was also a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Elfriede; siblings Tom O’Connor and Peg Milanese, and children: Patricia (Glenn) Goldsmith, Joseph (Tonia) O’Connor, and Kevin (Katie) O’Connor. As well as by grandchildren: Kayla (Thierry Destroismaisons) Goldsmith, Jenna Goldsmith, Justin (Danielle) Palumbo, Ashley (Ryan) Burkhardt, Joseph Gerard O’Connor III, Elizabeth (Ty Lacina) O’Connor, Shannon (Corbin) Schlichter, and great grandchildren: Sebastian Palumbo, Aydah and Percy Burkhardt.

Joe was preceded in death by his siblings: Mary Ellen, Franny, Patsy, Dennis, and Robert.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Joe’s honor in an Irish Pub on Long Island in November of 2022.
