Obituary of Harry Sommers Reed

Harry Reed passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on March 18, 2022 after a heroic battle with mesothelioma. He was born in Baltimore Maryland on January 4, 1938. He was the seventh of seven children born to parents William C. Reed and Estelle M. Reed (Finnirty). He was an avid sports enthusiast his entire life and loved following the Baltimore Colts, Orioles and Ravens. HARRY worked throughout his adult life in the mechanical insulation industry. He started Reed Mechanical Insulation in 1976. He later formed what is currently known as B M R Insulation Contracting Inc., with son William M. Reed. This is a true family owned and operated business that will continue to prosper under the direction of William Reed. Harry’s incredible work ethic was instilled in everyone that he touched. HARRY’s love for sports carried over to his children and grandchildren. Whether it was a football game, cheerleading event, baseball or soccer it was rest assured he was in the stands or on the sidelines cheering and sometimes yelling at the coaches. His love of family never wavered. He was an incredibly noble and giving man with a warm soul. He always helped anyone he could throughout his life in good times and bad. HARRY was married for 46 years to his loving wife Dru Reed (Harris) who predeceased him December 12, 2002. Harry is survived by sons William Reed (Betsy) and John Reed (Tammy) and grandchildren, Karlin Reed (Chad) daughter of John Reed, Jake Reed (Lacy) and Logan Reed, sons of John Reed. HARRY is also survived by loving companion of 18 years and wife of 5 months Herta Benevento. Step son Tom Bantle, step daughter Michaela (Tom) Danhousen. Their children Nathen, Toryn and Jewel and Nathen’s son Jack. A celebration of life will be held at the Tampa Fireman’s Museum on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the mesothelioma cancer cause of your choice.
