Obituary of W. Denny Arant

Noted artist Denny Arant, 79, whose vibrant oil paintings graced gallery walls from Washington, DC to Santa Ana, CA, and who showed locally at Palm Avenue Gallery in Sarasota, died January 21, 2006. Originally a Washington, DC based artist, his works were hung in numerous private collections and museums, most notably the Chicago Art Institute, Corcoran Gallery, and the Smithsonian Institution where he received the prestigious Franz Bader Award for Oil Painting. Among his numerous prizes was his selection as representative of the United States in the International Malerwochen in Vienna, Austria in 1970. He moved to Sarasota in 2002 where he continued to work in his Nokomis studio, and had just completed negotiations for a gift to New College of Florida in Sarasota. His work had caught the attention of the Sarasota Herald Tribune, and he was the Featured Artist in Style Magazine by Brooksie Bergen in October 2004. Mr. Arant was known as an innovative artist who always pushed the limits of expression to new heights. He created in many mediums including wood and metal sculpture, oils, acrylics, and watercolors paintings. On 1-27-06, the Sarasota Herald Tribune published an interesting article on the Denny Arant service that was held at Farley Funeral Home on 1-26-06.
