Obituary of Jack W. Appleby
The family of Jack W. Appleby announces with sorrow his passing on February 2nd.
He will be greatly missed as a devoted husband, loving father, and
wonderful friend.
Jack was born in Peoria, IL on July 31, 1922 to Norman and Jean Appleby. During
World War II he joined the Coast Guard serving as an instructor of
mechanics in Groton, Connecticut. It was there that he met his wife
Marion to whom he was married for 63 years. Jack owned the J W Appleby
Sheet Metal and Roofing Co. in Waterford, Connecticut, and later
worked as an engineer for Monsanto Corp. in Deep River. After moving
to Venice in 1972, Jack continued to indulge his love of construction
and design. He built many local homes, owned and operated Suncoast
Property Consultants, Inc. providing home inspection services, and
served as an expert witness for area attorneys. Jack formed the first
Florida chapter of the American Society of Home Inspectors and helped
organize the original Kiwanis Home Show which is held every winter at
the Venice Community Center. He loved art and design, expressing
himself through sculpture and jewelry making and was a member and
trustee of the Gulf Coast Mineral, Fossil and Gem Club. Jack was an
avid boater and a former member of the Venice Yacht Club and Useppa
Island Club. He will be remembered for his passion and talent as a
visionary builder, creative artist and musician, a life-long learner
and a true renaissance man.
He is survived by his loving wife Marion; three daughters, Jan Moore and
husband Bob of Venice, Nancy Appleby and fianc� Andrew Palmeri of
Alexandria, VA, Joan Maison and husband Art of Toms River, NJ; sister
Pat Regal of Peoria, IL; seven grandchildren, John Moore of Sarasota,
Rob Moore of Plattsburgh, NY, Keith Tennent of Venice, James Moore of
Palmetto Point, Scott Maison of Lincoln, VA, Meredith Pampell of
Hamden, CT and Monica Pampell of Washington, DC; and seven
great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Kimerlee
Maison.
