Obituary of Robert Moore Harris

Robert Moore Harris of Ontario, New York died February 5, 2007. He was 97. Robert was born August 6, 1909 in Rochester, New York to Clara T. (Moore) Harris, M.D. and Charles R. Harris, M.D; step-mother Anna M. Darrohn. He resided in Ontario, New York since 1937 and has been a winter resident of Venice, Florida since 1981. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Freda Nash and brother, Gordon Harris of Webster, NY. Survivors include his daughter, Jill Joseph of S. Padre Island, Texas and son, John Harris and wife Mary of South Bristol, Maine; brother, Charles R. Harris, M.D. of Berea, Kentucky; granddaughter, Katherine H. Thut, Ph.D.; son-in-law, David Thut, M.D.; great grandsons, Ben and Chad Thut of Poulsbo, Washington; grandson, Charles R. Harris; daughter-in-law, LeAnn S. Harris; great grandson, Chase Harris and great granddaughter, Tori Lee Harris of Damariscotta, Maine; granddaughter, Heather H. Harris of South Bristol, Maine as well as many loved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Robert graduated from the University of Rochester in 1934. He had a 39 year career at the State Bank of Ontario, retiring as an Officer and Director. He was a WWII Veteran of the Navy. Robert was recently honored for his 69 years of membership in Immanuel United Church of Christ in Ontario, where he served as treasurer for many years. Robert was a founding member of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and the Community Chest, serving both organizations as treasurer. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Meyer-Ingraham Post in Ontario. His community service also included the Wayne Central School District as Board Member and President. Robert Harris was a loving and kind husband, brother, father, cousin, great grandfather, great uncle and friend to all he met. He loved music and attended his last outdoor jazz concert on February 1st at the gazebo in Venice. Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory, Venice, FL is handling arrangements. A Memorial Service will be held on the shore of Lake Ontario next summer. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Immanuel United Church of Christ Church, P.O.
