Obituary of Thomas H. Audley

Thomas H. Audley, Jr. “Terrible Tom” of Venice, FL died February 28, 2007. He was born January 10, 1924 in Rockville Centre, New York one of three children born to Thomas H. and Sarah V. (Mulldowney) Audley. He graduated from Southside High School in Rockville Centre and attended Columbia University in New York. He served in the United States Air Force and was a distinguished veteran of WWII. He was a former member of the volunteer Fire Department in Rockville Centre. Thomas was a man of many talents and found a way to express them all. He had a strong belief in individual initiative, thinking that he could do anything that was ever asked of him. He was a fine athlete and played football for Columbia University. He loved the music of his era, and after returning home from the war he worked for a while as the house drummer at the famous Hickory House jazz club in New York City. He, along with his wife, built a home for their growing family in Northport, Long Island, doing much of the construction work themselves. He was very active in the restaurant business on Long Island, running several popular and successful restaurants; among them was Flynn’s in Bay Shore. Besides his many other activities, he was also a man of great faith, with a particular devotion to St. Therese of Lisieux. Survivors include his beloved wife Jean of 58 years; five children: Barbara, Kathleen, Michael, Patricia and Thomas; as well as eight grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 7-9 PM on Friday, March 9 at Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, March 10 at Epiphany Cathedral in Venice. Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory is handling arrangements.
