Obituary of Charles B. Hauptman

Charles B. Hauptman, 88, of North Port, formerly of Ashland, MA, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2007 after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis D. (Campbell) Hauptman; two daughters and their husbands Carol Leigh and Alfred G. Clifford of Rowley, MA and Janet Ruth and John H. Reardon of Medway, MA. Also six grandchildren Keith Charles Jones of Boston, MA; Alfred “Skip” Clifford and his wife Sarah, of Newbury, MA; Christopher Campbell Clifford of Rowley, MA; John Henry Reardon, US Navy stationed in Bahrain; Tiffany Leigh and Lindsay Ann of Medway, MA and one great-granddaughter, Sadie Jane Clifford of Newbury, MA and several nieces and nephews. Born in Framingham, MA and raised in Natick, MA, Charles was active in the Boy Scouts, serving as Scout Master of Troop 1 and Demolay, serving as Past Master Councilor of the Natick Chapter of Demolay. He was also a life time member of the Alpha Masonic Lodge of Framingham, MA. He served with the National Guard of Natick later serving with the US Army during World War II stationed in Africa and Italy. He raised his family in Ashland where he was a Charter life-time member of VFW Post 2331. After 37 years he retired from New England Telephone Company and he and his wife, Phyllis retired to North Port. He became a 32-degree Scottish Rite Mason in Tampa, Florida Valley and was a member of Sahib Temple and Past President and Charter Member of North Port Shrine Club. He was also an auxiliary volunteer at the Venice Regional Hospital, Venice, FLA. Throughout his life he was an avid camper, fisherman and woodworker.
