Obituary of Edward Earl Wooddell

Colonel Edward Earl Wooddell, age 77, of Venice, FL , died on July 12, 2007. He was born in Richmond, VA on May 6, 1930, and has been a Venice resident for 17 years, moving from Arlington, VA. Col. Wooddell earned a Masters degree from the University of Denver. He served in the Us Air Force and was a Korean War Veteran. During the last 17 years of his Air Force career, he served at the Pentagon, finally as Comptroller of the Air Force Reserve. Col. Wooddell also worked at the 1st National Bank and American National Banks of Denver as a loan officer. He was a member of the American Institute of Banking and Robert Morris Associates. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Christ United Methodist Church Child Development Center, and as President of the Sarasota County Senior Men’s Tennis League for 8 years. He was also a member of the Jacaranda Tennis Club and the Myakka Pines Golf Club. Col. Wooddell sang in the Christ United Methodist Church Choir and participated in mission trips to China, Africa, and the Dominican Republic. Surviving family members include his loving wife of 51 years, Marcia, daughter Crystal Rush and husband John of St. Petersburg, FL; son Charles Wooddell of Alamogordo, NM; daughter Sandra McCulloch and husband Bill of Annandale, VA; sister Dorothy Wintringham of Aurora, CO; 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 17th, 11 AM at Christ United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 1475 Center Rd., Venice, FL 34292. Farley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
