Obituary of Richard E. Shute

Richard E. Shute, 69, of Nokomis, FL, died on October 9th, 2007. “Dick” Shute was Marshall Space Flight Center’s Resident Manager for the Saturn V Rocket at the Kennedy Space Center during the Apollo program. He created the Research and Evaluation Bureau of Florida’s H.R.S. under Gov. Reuben Askew in Tallahassee, and was a Senior Executive in the U.S. Departments of Commerce and Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C. Currently, he has been an arbitrator for Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. Richard Shute earned his B.S.M.E. at the University of Miami and M.B.A. from Florida State University. In 1960 he wed Linda McElhiney in Coral Gables, FL. They have resided on Casey Key for eleven years where he served as Casey Key Association President and Board member. He belonged to the Democratic Club of Sarasota. He is survived by his loving wife, their children, Laurel Shute of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Kurt Shute of Portland, Oregon, brother Robert Shute of Chester, N.Y. and sister Doris Dalen of East Quogue, N.Y. He was predeceased by brother William Shute of Springwater, NY. A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Sarasota at 11 AM Tuesday, October 23rd.
