Obituary of Alice Ruth Stysick

Alice Ruth Stysick, 91, of North Port, Florida and formerly of Buffalo, New York, passed on to Glory, Friday, October 19, 2007. She was born January 28, 1916 in Buffalo, New York to Edward William Metke and Amelia Christine Frank. She and her younger sister, Gladys, attended public school and Bennett High. She was active in Girls Scouts, attended Glenwood Avenue Church of Christ, and enjoyed camping at 4T Acres YMCA and 7 Hills Girl Scout Camp. She attended Bryant Stratton Secretarial School. Alice met her husband, Edward G. Stysick, playing badminton. They married January 18, 1943 in the Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church in Buffalo. Soon after Edward joined the Navy. After returning from war they raised 3 children moving from Buffalo to Williamsville after the birth of their third child. She was member of Williamsville Methodist Church and served as church secretary for some time. She was a licensed realtor and worked at Lembke & Nauth. She finished her career in 1978 as an administrative secretary for 12 years for Clarence School District. Alice was an Eastern Star while in Buffalo. She loved music, played the piano, sang in the church choir, sang with Sweet Adelines and in a quartet called “The Skeptics”. She helped with organizations her children were involved in and shared the Stysick Real Estate Business with Edward. Alice and Edward retired to North Port, Florida in 1979. Their retirement was filled with friends, visits from family, choir and responsibilities at North Port Community United Church of Christ and the Jockey Club. Edward passed September 22, 1996. Alice is survived by son, Gary Stysick, Ketchikan, Alaska; daughter, Lynn and son-in-law Robert Pyke, Syracuse, New York; granddaughter, Kendra Amelia Pyke, Houston, Texas; grandson, Christopher Robert Pyke, Syracuse, New York; daughter and caregiver, Kathy Stysick of North Port; niece, Susan Bies; nephews, Louis and Brian Schmidt; a great niece and grand nephews. Donations may be made to the church or Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, Florida 34285. A memorial service will be held 11 AM, Saturday, November 3, 2007 at North Port Community United Church of Christ, 3450 S. Biscayne Drive, North Port, Florida. 34287
