Obituary of William J. Shannon

William J. Shannon 81 of North Port, Florida, passed away February 7, 2008. William was born January 20, 1927 in Clio, Michigan, the son of the late William J. and Elizabeth (Stewart) Shannon. William moved to North Port in 1987 after his retirement from the Buick Auto Division in Flint, Michigan. William worked for 42 years at Buick with perfect attendance, never missing a day of work. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Flint, Michigan, Navy Seabees, former member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans (PLAV) in Flint, and former member of a Barbershop Quartet. He loved fishing, bowling, golf, reading, spending time with family and friends, especially the breakfast “gangs” at McDonald’s and Burger King in North Port. William is survived by his wife of 19 years, Gladys; daughters, Kathy Prehoda and Eileen Shannon both of Quincy, Florida; three step daughters, Mary Byrski and Patricia (Keith) Gross both of Punta Gorda, Florida and Deborah (Michael) Kight of Watkinsville, Georgia; grandchildren, Kelly (Scott) Treadwell, Kimberly Shannon, Kris Shannon, Regina Prehoda, Stephen Blackburn, Emily Byrski, Miranda Gross, Lane Blackburn, Bridgit Gross, Scott Shannon; and one great grandson, Donavan Treadwell. William is preceded in death by two sons, Michael and Patrick Shannon; and one grandson, Johnny Prehoda. A celebration of William’s life will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 11:00 at the Farley Funeral Home North Port Chapel.
