Obituary of Marion L. Wellner nee Austgen

Marion L. Wellner, nee Austgen, age 83, of Nokomis, FL, formerly of Timonium, MD, Western Springs, IL, and Brookfield, IL, died March 5, 2008. A memorial service will be at Farley Funeral Home, Venice, FL on Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 1 PM. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, 8 months, 6 days, Robert, her daughter Patricia Marie Herd of Tyler, TX, her grandson Allen Shea and wife Michelle, great granddaughters Rebecca, Jessica, Elizabeth, great grandson Alexander and great -great grandson James Allen of Tucson, AZ, her grandson Steven Shea of Marietta, GA, great granddaughter Brittany, and great grandson Nicholas, her granddaughter Jenny L. Adams of College Park, MD, her son Mark and wife Veronica, granddaughter Sarah Merzel and husband David Merzel, great granddaughter Abigail, great grandson Zachary of Boca Raton, FL, her grandson Joshua Wellner of Arlington, VA, also many nieces and nephews scattered through out. She was predeceased by her mother Martha Louise Austgen (Graham), her father George Austgen, her brother George Austgen, sister Joan Youngs, and brother James Wilson. Marion was born in Chicago, IL, and graduated from Tuley High School in 1942. Shortly thereafter she married Robert Wellner of Berwyn, IL and while they were separated for almost 4 years because of WWII, they enjoyed a wonderful family life together for almost 66 years. She and her family resided in Brookfield, and Western Springs, IL before moving to Timonium, MD in 1964. In 1977, she and her husband retired to Nokomis, FL and have resided there since. She was a wonderful mother who loved her family, loved cooking and was creative in many crafts. During World War II, she was employed in the defense industry as a comptometer operator in payroll organizations. She enjoyed horseback riding, bowling, ice skating, and later in life was a cruising enthusiast. Her grandmother was Martha Louise Graham (Downer) who was the great-great granddaughter of Pierce Downer, who was the first settler of Downers Grove, Illinois, for whom the town is named. She impacted many lives and will be sorely missed by all. Although she loved gardening and flowers, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the 33rd Infantry Division Association, c/o Rosemary Chamberlin, Treas., 6413 Ravine Road, Kalamazoo, MI 49009-9002, or your favorite charity.
