Obituary of Walter C. Garthwait

Walter C. Garthwait, 85, Venice, died March 8, 2008. He was born July 5, 1922 in Wolcott, CT. He served in the U.S. Army Calvary for the 102nd Reconnaissance Troop. Sergeant Garthwait was involved in the Rhineland Central Europe Battle and Campaign. He received decorations and citations for the European, African, Middle Eastern campaigns, American Theater campaign as well as The Victory Ribbon. Walter then settled in Watertown, CT where he owned Garthwait Construction Company until 1970. He then relocated to Casey Key in Nokomis where he owned and operated apartments for 22 years before semi-retiring to Venice. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Loretta; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Guy Langlais of Sarasota; son, Todd Garthwait of Nokomis; brother Everton of Valrico, FL; two granddaughters and four great granddaughters.
