Obituary of Honorable J. Wendell Roberts

The Honorable J. Wendell Roberts, a retired federal bankruptcy judge for the Western District of Kentucky, passed away at his home in Venice, Florida on March 29, 2008 at the age of 64. Judge Roberts served on the Bankruptcy Court from 1987 to 2001 including seven years as chief judge. He was a native of Somerset, Kentucky and practiced law in Marion, Kentucky for twenty years. He was a 1966 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Law; a 1964 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and an adopted alumni of the University of Louisville. Among his accomplishments, Roberts is remembered for his compassion, dedication and commitment to Habitat for Humanity having participated in blitz builds with former President Jimmy Carter and participating in the rebuilding in Biloxi, Mississippi with Back Bay Mission. He is survived by his wife, Sherry; mother Dorothy Roberts and a brother Ritchie Roberts, both of Somerset, Kentucky; a son, Dr. Stephen A. Roberts and a daughter, Shannon Morris; three grandchildren, Jessica and Dakota Roberts, and Savannah Morris, all of Northport, Alabama. He is also survived by a stepdaughter, Amy Jenkins, a stepson, J. Barrett McKim, and three step grandchildren, RJ and Katie Jenkins and Avigayle McKim, all of Southern Indiana. Memorial Services are scheduled for April 12, 2008 at 11:00 EDT at Grace United Methodist Church, Venice, Florida and on April 19, 2008 at 3:00 CDT at Fohs Hall, Marion, Kentucky.
