Obituary of Marsha L. Mitchell

Marsha Lynn Mitchell, 67, of North Port, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at home surrounded by family. She was born on August 10th, 1952 in Lansing, Michigan to her parents Russell and Lillie Dickerson. She was 6 months old when the family moved to Kansas City, Kansas. She attended Wyandotte High School where she was in the play, ‘The King and I' with Drama Club. Marsha played the French horn, was a member of A Cappella, Future Business Leaders of America, Girls' Glee Club and Girls' League. She graduated in 1970 and was lucky enough to win a scholarship from a local couple and received her associate degree in business from Kansas City Kansas Community College in 1972. Marsha worked for Mobil Oil Credit Corporation from 1975 until 1990 as an Employee Relations Coordinator. Marsha met the love of her life, Lynn Mitchell, on February 13th, 1981 on a double date with Marsha's sister, Kathy and her husband, Gene. Kathy set them up, as she knew Lynn from work. The very next day, Valentine's Day, Lynn flew Marsha to Topeka for dinner and back again. The night after that, Lynn cooked Marsha the biggest Porterhouse steak she'd ever seen and they moved in together shortly after. They married December 5, 1981 at the Shawnee Church of the Nazarene in Shawnee, Kansas. In 1986, they had a baby girl named Stefanie, and a few years later in 1990, a son named Christopher. The family of four left Gladstone, Missouri the same year and found a home in Layton, Utah. Marsha loved to take her kids swimming, to the movie theater and shopping at the mall. She loved to decorate every inch of the house for every holiday, especially Christmas. She was a Girl Scout Leader and member of the PTA. Marsha loved a glass of iced tea and a good book, spending time with family and going on family vacations. Marsha was a stay-at-home Mom until Christopher was in school full-time. She started working part-time for Kings Avionics where her husband worked, and later became full-time. She spent 21 years working for Kings Avionics in Salt Lake City, Utah in the parts department and as the Human Resources Manager. She left when the company closed the Salt Lake office in 2017 and began working for Borsight in Ogden. She once again worked in close proximity to her Husband, who worked in the building next-door. Marsha retired in early 2018 and her husband the following January. They sold their home of 27 years in Layton, Utah to begin a new adventure in North Port, Florida and moved into their new home in October of 2019. Marsha had a great personality. She always had funny ways of saying things and loved to laugh. She treated everyone as family and always put everyone else first. Every time a movie would end, she would say, ""That's the way it happens going out West!"" If you ever said, ""Beetlejuice"", she had to say it three times. If you said, ""So?"" she would always say, ""needle and thread"". She was called, ""Marsha, Marsha, Marsha"" many times over the years. Marsha is survived by her Husband, Lynn Mitchell, daughter Stefanie (Coty) Mitchell and son, Christopher (Mandee) Mitchell, a grandchild, Cooper Mitchell and her Shih Tzu, Domino. Other surviving family includes brothers Carey Dickerson from Kansas City, Kansas and Russell Dickerson from Clinton, Missouri, and a sister, Lesa Gallardo, of Kansas City, Missouri as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Marsha is preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Lillie Dickerson and sisters Renee, Arlene and Kathy - and an Alaskan Husky Grandson she loved so much named Tank. Marsha will be greatly missed and forever loved. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Sepsis.org.
