Obituary of Vicki M. Flock

Vicki Macaulay Flock, a New Jersey native and a 30 year resident of Englewood, Florida died peacefully at the French Blossoms Assisted Living facility in Venice on Wednesday, September 8th. She would have turned 97 years old on September 24th. Mrs. Flock was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Englewood, which was a strong support for years before she moved to assisted living after a stroke in 2019. Vicki was born Ruth Victoria Macaulay in Trenton, NJ, graduating from Hamilton High School in 1942. Her mother was a homemaker, and her father was a WW 1 Navy veteran and later a shop foreman for General Motors. Vicki lived in Oakland, California during WW 2 while her then husband served overseas. She later returned to New Jersey, working as a secretary at the luggage maker Atlantic Products Corporation and was married to a pilot with Capital Airlines. Vicki married again in 1958 and moved to Waretown, NJ with her husband, Byron Flock, who was a former chief of the Hope Fire Department in Allentown, NJ. While things were quieter after she had her stroke, Vicki was an adventurer in her younger years. She had a motorcycle helmet displayed on her porch with the nickname ""Tricki Vicki"" emblazoned on the back. She loved driving her convertible and lamented the day she could no longer have a driver's license, but was fortunate to have friends who picked her up for outings to the salon, restaurants, church, Red Hat Ladies events, and more. She was a sharp dresser, always choosing a special outfit for each event. Even in her 90's she sported leather pants, leopard print leggings, and high-heeled lace tennis shoes! Her style and energy is sorely missed. Mrs. Flock is survived by her only son, Jeff Flock, a journalist and correspondent for the Fox Business Network. Jeff was her pride and joy and she loved watching him on television, as well as starring in a live interview that went viral after she survived Hurricane Irma in her bathtub. Vicki is also survived by her two grandchildren, author and journalist Elizabeth Kathryn Flock of Los Angeles and digital cartographer Emily Macaulay Flock of Lodz, Poland, and her daughter in law, Gwendolyn Messer, MD. A memorial service is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Flock's memory may be made to Englewood, Florida Meals On Wheels.
