Obituary of Tobias Haug

Tobias (Toby)  Haug 87, passed away on April 8, 2024 in Sarasota, Florida. He was born on  December 13, 1936 in The Bronx, N.Y. to Herman and Aenne (Heisterkamp) Haug.   He graduated from Newtown High School in NYC.   He served four years in the US Navy.   Toby married Louisa Van Wyck in October of 1961.   They enjoyed 62 years together and raised a daughter, Katrina (1962) and a son Karl (1964). He is also survived by a Niece and Nephews Erica, Gilbert, Tony, Shawn, Alfred and Jay. Toby worked for Central Hudson Gas and Electric for 37 years.  Toby enjoyed living in the county (The Farm) on Huckleberry Turnpike in Plattekill, where the family planted 1000 + Christmas trees through the years.  Many Holidays and celebrations were shared  by families and friends who came to pick the perfect tree and to celebrate Toby’s birthday. 

Moving to Venice, Florida in his retirement years, first as a snowbird in 1996 and then permanently in 2003.   Toby explored his creative and artistic side making lawn art from “junk” metal and helping Louisa in the garden.

Toby was always helping someone fix, repair, or create something.   In his memory continue his generosity  to others.  It is the greatest way to honor him “When You Pay It Forward.”, think of TOBY.

Friends are invited to gather in the Club Room at Venice Avenue Condos, on Sunday, April 21st from 1PM to 4PM to share memories and celebrate his life.

At a future date we will gather in Plattekill to celebrate his life with friends from our life in N.Y.
