Obituary of Angela Zerad

Angela Zerad, of Englewood and Venice, Florida, passed away at the Windsor of Venice on March 25, at age 102.

Angie, as she was known, was born in Chicago into a large family of Czech immigrants. She earned a BA in music from Mundelein College. In 1945, Angie married Lt. JG Frank Zerad during a weekend pass from the wartime Navy. They raised two daughters, Susan (Piero Garau) of Rome, Italy, and Deborah (James Fallows) of Washington DC. Besides her children, Angie is survived by 3 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Angie and Frank raised their family in Chicago, Minneapolis, and Ohio. Together, they built a business representing manufacturers of packaging machinery. In the late 1970s, they began volunteering with the International Executive Service Corps, in Korea, Indonesia, Egypt, and Kenya.

Returning to the US, they settled in the 1990s on Manasota Key in Englewood. Angie was an active member and volunteer at the Elsie Quirk Library. She was a regular at the Englewood YMCA. Angie moved to the Windsor in 2019, where she built and nurtured her community, playing the piano daily for an hour for residents, until a few weeks before she gently passed away.
