Ginny McCarthy

Obituary of Ginny D. McCarthy

Ginny McCarthy, 78, of Venice, Florida sadly left us on Thursday, April 25, 2024 after complications with her heart and kidneys.

Born and raised in Chicago, IL, she was a member of the St. Monica’s parish on the Northwest side of the city.  After getting married and a short relocation to Newark, Ohio, Ginny settled in Schaumburg, IL to raise her son, Patrick.  There, Ginny met and married Ed McCarthy. Together, they went to antique markets, went to seek live folk music, especially Pete Seeger, The Kingston Trio, and Arlo Guthrie, embraced their common love of classic movies, and made a home for several of her beloved cats.

Eventually, the brutal Chicago winters became too much for Ginny and her husband Ed, and in the 1990’s they escaped to live the island life in Key West. A Bloody Mary, live music, and an array of agile and playful “circus” cats added to her relaxing tropical lifestyle. Soon, the mainland called to her, and Ginny and Ed moved to Venice, Florida.

Anyone who came to the house in Venice knew of Ginny’s love of classic movies.  With her black and white cats by her side, she enjoyed the black and white films of yesteryear.

Spending almost 25 years in Venice, Ginny befriended a lot of people.  She delighted them with her stories and laughter.  These wonderful friends were with her until the end.  She will be missed by all, but no one will miss her as much as her loving son, Patrick and granddaughter Olive.

Ginny is preceded in death by her husband, Ed McCarthy.  She is survived by her son, Patrick O’Boyle (Catie), granddaughter, Olivia, and her cat, Janice.

We know Ginny is watching over us from her own island in paradise, sipping on a margarita, petting her long lost cats, and listening to yet one more song with Ed at the Tiki bar.
