Obituary of Daphne June Taylor Dumm

Daphne June Taylor Dumm passed away peacefully at the age of 90, at her residence in Venice, Florida. She was born in June of 1933, in a rural, agricultural area of Niles, California, now part of the City of Fremont, near historic Mission San Jose.  Daphne was the daughter of John Theodore Taylor, and Mary Geraldine Nunes Taylor, of Fremont, California. John’s family came to the Bay Area from Malone, New York, and Mary’s family immigrated from the Azore Islands when she was a young child. Daphne was the oldest of four children, Nicki Lamont (f/k/a Linda Marie Taylor), John “Johnny” Theodore Taylor, Jr. and Jessica Ann Taylor.  The Taylor family took pride in being hard working, honest, fun loving and close knit.  Sunday dinners were a family affair with as many as 20 crowded around the old oak dining table.

After graduating from high school, Daphne married Norman James Rose, Jr., of Niles, California with whom she had three children, Corey Joseph Rose, Nancy Erin Rose (a/k/a Faith Rose) and Eileen Larie Rose McAllister.  As a divorced, single mother, Daphne was known for her great courage and tenacity in pursuing a college education, while raising her three small children.  She worked full time as a legal secretary, saw all three of her children graduate from high school and then graduated herself from California State College at Fullerton in 1981, with a Bachelor of Arts in Finance.  She inspired both of her daughters to graduate from college, Faith with a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Music (voice/composition) from University of California at Santa Cruz, and Eileen with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education (voice/choral) from Cal State Fullerton. Faith went on to graduate at the top of her law school class from University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.

Daphne’s son Corey Joseph Rose served in the Navy, and after honorable discharge, was employed for his entire career at the Bremerton Shipyards, working his way up to become the head of quality control for the Navy’s nuclear submarine program.

Daphne was a trail blazer and went on to become a Financial Planner and licensed Stockbroker, working for Dean Whittier Reynolds and Merrill Lynch, winning the highest sales awards for a new associate, at both employers.  In 1977, Daphne married Sherman Andrew Boring, Vice President of Hunt Wesson, and the two shared married life together for 22 years. They enjoyed traveling in their Fifth Wheel Trailer to state and federal parks across the U.S. and Canada. After Sherm’s death Daphne moved to Colorado Springs to be near her daughter Eileen, her husband Lloyd McAllister and their four children.

In 2009 Daphne met the love of her life, Rowland Ellsworth Dumm, of Venice, Florida. They were married for eternity in the Orlando Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and settled into happy married life together for nearly five years before Rowland passed away in December of 2013.

Daphne enjoyed traveling and spending time with her growing family and frequently visited or had them come to visit her, even when that meant flying to Alaska for her 85^th birthday celebration. And her family loved visiting her in her beautiful home in Venice.  She is survived by both her daughters, seven grandchildren with their spouses, Emily Anne McAllister Watson and Samuel Aaron Watson, David Lloyd McAllister and Josalyn Baldwin McAllister, Andrew Delos McAllister and Sasha Norris McAllister, Natalie May McAllister Miller and Roderick “Erick” Miller, Ambrosia Neko Rose and Brian Adamson, Ace J. Savant, Angela Chante Rose-Parks and Jasuha Tyler Parks, and Chad and Jan Rose. She has nine great-grandchildren, Kayla Ann Watson, Abigale Lynn Watson, William Samuel Watson, Gabriel John Watson, Brenda Jane McAllister, Alice Rose McAllister, Heidi Claire McAllister and Joseph Delos McAllister. Others of Daphne’s family include, Barbara Taylor Tatum, Cindy Lou Rose, Shar Olguin, Joseph Olguin, Jeremy Carl Frydenlund, Andrea Frydenlund.

We loved her well, and she loved us. May she rest now, in the peace of her Savior’s arms, surrounded in light, by her many loved ones who have gone before.
