Obituary of Edward J. Crowe
On Sunday July 30, 2023, Merchant Marine Captain Edward J. Crowe, a beloved husband and father of 5 passed away at age 88. Captain Crowe is survived by his wife Cynthia Crowe and children Georgie, Wendy (deceased), Spiro, Catherine and William. Captain Edward Crowe married his wife Cynthia in Cape Town South Africa.
Captain Crowe began his career as an able seaman right out of high school working on the deck, he studied and worked his way up to the position of Captain. He sailed with the US Military Sea Transport Service, transporting troops, and military supplies to Vietnam on unarmed ships. His last sea voyage was as a volunteer Captain sailing the LST-325 amphibious vessel used in WWII. In 2005 the month-long trip sailed the LST-325 from Greece to Boston Harbor where it escorted the US Constitution from Boston Harbor. The ship was featured in the Clint Eastwood movie “Flags of our Fathers.” Capt. Crowe also served in the US Army as a paratrooper for the 101st air born. He was a very well-respected Captain and loved by his crew. Captain Edward Crowe navigated some of the largest ships by the stars and now is among the stars. His courage, strength, determination, dedication, love and kindness to his family and country will live on in those he touched, as he will be sorely missed.
The memorial services will be held Saturday Aug. 5th 2023, at Farley Funeral home in Venice, Florida at 10:00 am, followed by the cemetery services at 11:30am at Memorial Gardens in Venice, Florida.
