Obituary of Helen V. Lanaro

Helen V. Lanaro, age 93, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away on June 26, 2023. She was born on October 22, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York where she was raised and lived for 86 years. Helen was a telephone operator for NY Telephone Co before leaving to raise her three children. She returned to work in 1976 and was a Supervisor for the NY State DMV for 20 years and retired in1996. In 2015 she moved to Venice, FL where she enjoyed her new friends and great weather.

Helen was a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians in Brooklyn, New York, O’Brien Association in Brooklyn, New York, and the Venice Moose Lodge # 1308 in Venice, FL.

Mom was an avid bingo and lottery player. She was on several bowling leagues in Brooklyn, NY and she loved to watch her beloved Mets and golf.

She is survived by her children, Anne (Glenn) Lanaro Krapf of Sarasota, FL, Peter (Jean Turco) Lanaro of Fort Myers, Florida, and Ellen (and her late husband Joseph Burke) Lanaro of Cuddebackville, NY. She also leaves behind her grandson, Peter Robert Lanaro of Highland Mills, NY. She is aunt to 16 nieces and nephews, great Aunt to 27 nieces and nephews and great-great Aunt to 22 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Nora Morrison; her husband Robert Lanaro; sister and brother-in-law, Marion & John Mee; brother and sister-in-law, James & Kay Morrison, sister and brother-in-law, Anne (Nancy) and James Frost and brother and sister-in -law, John and Terry Morrison.

A visitation will be held from 2:00PM-6:00PM at Farley Funeral Home in Venice on Thursday, July 6, 2023. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, July 7, 2023 at Epiphany Cathedral in Venice with a graveside service to be held at 2:00PM at Sarasota National Cemetery.
