Obituary of Jack Vernay Butler
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jack Vernay Butler. He passed on Father’s Day, June 18th 2023 at the age of 84 in his home in Venice, Florida. Jack was born in Indiana and raised in Michigan where he met Carol his wife of 63 years.
Jack retired as a Colonel in the United States Air Force and served for over 25 years. He did tours in Vietnam, Nicaragua, Guyana, and air rescued countless lives. He was a pilot, a soldier, and an entrepreneur. In the 80’s he started Eagle III Development Company in Illinois.
He was Carol’s Husband, Carrie and Jack’s Father, Dog dad to Josie, Best friend, Grandfather, and Great grandfather.
He was highly educated with a Bachelors and Master’s of Arts and an esteemed graduate of Air War College.
He was a golfer, softball player, and number 1 fan to the Venice high school volleyball team.
He drank CC and a splash of 7, drove the white 56’ T-Bird, flew the four-seat Cessna, cruised in the pontoon boat, and had a condo on Venice beach.
Most of all he was known for the love of country, a true patriot.
Thoroughbreds don’t cry, the Eagle has landed. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023 from 4:00PM-6:00PM at Farley Funeral Home, 265 Nokomis Avenue S. in Venice. A private graveside service with military honors will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery. A message of condolence or memory may be sent by visiting www.farleyfuneralhome.com.
