Paul Greenler

Obituary of Paul Joseph Greenler

Paul J. Greenler, lifelong resident of Boxford, MA, passed away after a long battle with cancer on February 25, 2023. He died surrounded by family, in Venice, Florida. Paul was born on July 6, 1945 to William and Rita Greenler, growing up next to the family farm in Boxford, MA. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 52 yrs, Janet (McClung), sons- Scott and wife Jerri, Eric, Matthew, Grandsons - Breckin and Mason who lovingly called him ”Bumpa”. One of eight children, Paul is survived by siblings; Michael and wife Mildred, Joanne Gilbert, Janet Mierzykowski, Jack and wife Susan, James. He is preceded in death by siblings Jerry and Kathleen. He was dearly loved by his large extended family of nephews, nieces and numerous cousins.

He had a knack for numbers and worked as Comptroller for EG&G (Salem, MA), Comptroller for Star Tronics (Georgetown, MA), Chief Financial Officer for UFP (Georgetown, MA) for 25 years, before working for SPS New England (Salisbury, MA) as VP of Finance. He was involved in many activities in Boxford over the years, Chairman of the Boxford Finance Committee, board member of the Barbara Perley Scholarship Fund, Treasurer of Mt. Vernon Cemetery & Brookside Cemetery, member of the Boxford Mens Bowling League for many years, and volunteer firefighter for Boxford, MA. He finally retired in 2014 to travel the world with Janet, golf (more than usual) and relax together in both Boxford and Florida.

Paul lived for spending time with his (very large) family, extended family and a close group of friends. Whether it be family traditions; Thanksgiving football games, clambakes in Maine, camping trips, and Christmas parties. Or simply at home where the door was always open for people to stop by (as they so often did) to chat, play some games or talk taxes - he loved being around everyone and having many laughs. Being “Bumpa” and getting to spend time with his grandkids playing games, driving around on the lawn mower or watching their sports games and school events brought him immense joy.

To relax he enjoyed tooting around the yard or mowing the lawn but his true passion was golf. He was a founding member of the Boxford Men’s Golf League at Far Corners GC where he played for decades. Although enjoying the winters in Florida, Paul would always be sure to return north when league began in April. He would play any chance he got and was fortunate enough to play all over New England, the United States, Scotland and Ireland.

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life, which will be held at the Black Swan Country Club, 258 Andover Street, Georgetown, MA on March 18th from 2pm-5pm, with a short service at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to “The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society” www.lls.org.
