Obituary of James Theodore Alex, Jr.
James T. Alex, Jr. passed away on February 26,2023 in Sarasota, Florida. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri to the late James T. Alexopoulos and Etta Caskey Alexopoulos on March 2, 1927.
James entered the Army after high school, training on an Ordinance and Ballistics Technical Team. He graduated from UMKC (now University of Missouri). After graduating he began his 43-year career with General Motors at Chevrolet in Kansas City, later working at several GM locations around Detroit, retiring as Auditing Director.
James met Charlotte Chiles, his wife of 73 years, at college. They were married in 1949 and had three children.
James was a devoted Christian, active in his churches and Gideon camps both in Michigan and Florida after becoming a snowbird.
James and Charlotte traveled extensively, often with their brothers and wives. They enjoyed playing golf and bridge.
James was devoted to his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Marie Slater, Irene (Ned) Fortney, Helen (Paul) Kramos, Tosso (Julian) Ligeko, Ann (Walt) Bregach, Katherine (Bob) Chappell, and brothers Jack (Madeline) and Ted (Wilma) Alexopoulos.
James is survived by his wife, Charlotte, children Paula (James) Naas, Fred (Sonya) Alex, Ted Alex; sister Pat (Quinn) Duffy, grandchildren Matthew (Heather) Naas and Peter (Carrie) Naas, great-grandchildren Ana Naas, Alex Naas, Audrey Naas, and Liza Naas, as well as loving nieces and nephews.
A service of remembrance will be held at 12:00 Friday, March 3, 2023 at Farley Funeral Home in Venice, Florida. Visitation will be an hour before the service.
