Obituary of Cecilia Frances McGonigle

Cecilia Francis McGonigle (McCloskey), age 84, of Englewood, FL and Pennsauken, NJ passed away Wednesday morning February 15, 2023 in peace.

She was born May 5, 1938 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the daughter of the late Francis and Mary McCloskey. Cecilia, the youngest of eleven siblings, was preceded in death by nine of her brothers and sisters and leaves behind her remaining sister Sr. Regina McCloskey, OSF and her dear friend and sister-in-law Joan McCloskey.

Cecilia lost her father at the age of six. Her mother remarried Robert Potts, who raised her and her siblings with kindness and love.

Cecilia was a true girl from Philadelphia, raised surrounded by family on 2nd Street. She danced to the Mummers, a Quaker City fan, and on American Bandstand in her teens. She was an authentic “2nd Streeter”.

Cecilia was married to John H. McGonigle and is survived by two sons, two daughters, a son-in-law, and two daughters-in-law. John J. McGonigle (Margaret), Dennis J. McGonigle (Rachel), Patrice Martini (David), BethAnne McGonigle. Cecilia’s first love was family. She dearly loved her ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on February 21, 2023 at Saint Raphael Catholic Church, Englewood, FL. An internment service and remembrance event will be held at a future date for extended family members and friends.
