Obituary of Sebastiano Valenti
Sebastiano, "Nuzzo" to his family and friends, was born on October 10, 1940 in Sortino Sicily. First born son to the late Cesario Valenti and Lucia (Failla) Valenti. Life was simple, but hard growing up, as he worked as a farmer and later serving in the Italian army for two years. In 1966, he married the love of his life, Carmela (Lamari) Valenti, to whom spent the next 54 years as husband and wife. As with all newlyweds, starting a family was of importance, but times were hard and the decision was made to pack up what little belongings that they had, leave their family, friends and homeland to create a new life together in the U.S. Sebastiano took on any job to make ends meet, from pumping gas and construction work in New York, to working as a machinist and co-owning a restaurant in Connecticut to finally being the owner of a hardware store in Florida, to which he owned up until retirement for 35 years. When Carmela was stricken with arthritis and the Northern cold was too much for her too bare, Sebastiano didn't hesitate to once again pack up and again. Starting over, the family moved to Florida to have their retirement home built and live in their golden years.
Sebastiano lived a good life and he made countless friends along the way. He was always willing to help out other when he could and was deeply remembered for his kindness and generosity. He experienced many joys throughout his life. Marrying his love, raising two children into adulthood, walking his daughter down the aisle, being a "Nonno" to his two granddaughters and celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends.
Sebastiano will be deeply missed by his children: Lucia C. Guyer and Cesare A. Valenti. Son-in-law, John M. Guyer and his grandchildren. Sgt. Carmen M. Harmon (U.S. Army) and husband Jon Harmon (U.S. Army ret.) and Marina E. Guyer. A visitation will be held at Farley Funeral Home in Venice on Monday, January 30, 2023 from 5:00PM-7:00PM.
