John and I were, pretty much, neighbors growing up as kids in Gardner MA. I think I may have copped some of his sense of humor, which he had from a very young age. I don't remember ever being around him when we didn't laugh like hell. In my neighborhood, there was a bona fide "bully" named Larry. Larry was much bigger and stronger than the rest of us on our little street, and generally terrorized us. And when he was bad to us, we went to John, because he was the only kid BIGGER than Larry, and John would "take care of things" for us. He was a heck of a friend.
The last time I saw him was at a Gardner High School reunion circa 2012, after not seeing him for decades....and we seamlessly picked up conversations, including the story above, like we were kids again, laughing and teasing each other. John was easily one of the very few truly memorable classmates I had at GHS, and I will never forget him, his laugh, and his dry wit. I send my heartfelt condolences to his family. I know you will miss him greatly.
