Obituary of Thomas Mares

Thomas Vaclav Mares, 82, of North Port, FL passed away on December 16, 2022. Thomas was born on November 27, 1940 to Vaclav and Elizabeth Mares in Czechoslovakia and then resided in State College, PA before joining the Navy and serving in Vietnam. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree from The Pennsylvania State University in 1963 and had a 34-year career with the Department of Defense as a Naval Intelligence Analyst. He retired to the Sarasota area in 1998 and enjoyed photography, golf and his beloved PennState football. Thomas was also a member of the American Legion.

Thomas is survived by his wife Pat of 35 years; daughter Kristina; stepchildren, Tim, Teresa, Linda and Nicholas; grandchildren Abigail and Colin; sisters Erika (Alan) Stone and Marianna Archambault; and his nieces and nephews.  

Family, friends and others are invited to the funeral on January 3. Farley Funeral Home in North Port is handling the arrangements.
