John Gibson

Obituary of John Henry Gibson

John Henry Gibson was the last of 13 siblings whom God decided to take home on December 5, 2022. He lived a long, happy life of 90-years-of age surrounded by loving family and friends. He was a positive force for all those around him, always sharing words of encouragement even as he peacefully transitioned from this earth to heaven. For most of his adult life, he was a faithful elder of the Union Missionary Baptist Church of Venice, now a designated historical site.

In addition to his parents and 12 siblings, he was predeceased by his wives Frankie Gibson, the mother of his 9 children, and Luvenia Gibson, the mother of his 5 stepchildren, as well as his eldest son Kelly Gibson. Survivors include his eight children: Pat Holliday (Lee), John Gibson Jr, Michael Gibson (Carol), Theo Gibson, Norma Jean Limehouse (Alton), Sheila Gibson, Penny Gibson Taylor (Marlon), and Cindy Gibson. Survivors also include numerous grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and 5 stepchildren: H.J. Wooten (Jeanie), Marcia Page, Kathy Young, Gerald Wooten (Carol), and Stanley Wooten (Colleen).

Our Family is particularly grateful for the love and support provided by the doctors and nurses at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital, the Tidewell Hospice House, the Union Missionary Baptist Church, and the numerous friends of the family!

Those who wish to remember Elder Gibson may send flowers to the Farley Funeral Home, 265 S. Nokomis Avenue, Venice, Florida 34285.
