I was fortunate to grow up in Bardstown, across from the State Park that Joe's mother managed. And each time Joe was in town visiting his family, we would get to visit with him. While Joe was 13 years my senior, he never failed to ask about me, my school studies, my athletic pursuits, and what books I was reading. He was truly a kind and warm soul who always made me feel more important than I deserved to feel. What a wonderful, positive person and I will never forget him.
Rest in peace Joe.

I had Mr. Wycoff as a teacher at Cahokia High School (class of ‘83). He introduced us to Kate Turabian’s manual for writing. We had to write our papers “according to the Turabian rules.” Little did I know I would go to college, seminary for two masters degrees and a doctorate, and Turabian was what we used through them all! I’m a pastor, as well as a seminary professor and I still use Turabian (newer additions). Thanks Mr. Wycoff for influencing so many of us.

Rich & Carolyn Buxton posted a condolence

Anne, this is Rich Buxton. My wife Carolyn & I in Belleville, IL. I had the privilege of teaching with Joe at Cahokia High School, but my greater honor was his friendship. Joe & I taught for many years in the same building, the Annex, at Cahokia High School. He was exceptional and he was the teacher I aspired to be. I left teaching & moved into administration, ultimately serving as principal of CHS. Joe was liked and respected by students, staff, & parents, he was a consistent asset & an integral member of the CHS family. Carolyn and I are deeply saddened at his passing & we offer our most sincere condolences.
