Obituary of Mercedes Konzelman

Mercedes Davin Franz Konzelman, born September 25, 1935, passed away on May 26, 2022, at the age of 86. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she grew up on Long Island, the only child of Herbert and Gloria Franz. She graduated from Oceanside High School and Katharine Gibbs Business College.

She met the love of her life, Leroy M. Konzelman, on a blind date. They married in 1960 and shared 57 years of marriage before his passing in 2017. They moved to New Jersey, living in East Orange, Bloomfield, Livingston and Florham Park before retiring to Nokomis, Florida in 1999. After Lee’s death, she moved to Jacaranda Trace in Venice, Florida, and lived there for the remainder of her life, surrounded by treasured friends.

Mercedes worked as an executive assistant for Exon International for many years. Upon arriving in Florida, she and Lee helped found Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Osprey.

She is survived by her loving children, Mike and his wife, Sharon; Patty; and Chrissy Sablynski and her husband, Ray; two grandsons, Kenny and Matt Konzelman; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews, as well as many friends in New Jersey and Florida.

A funeral Mass will be offered for Mercedes at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Osprey, Florida, on Tuesday, May 31, at 10 a.m. Inurnment will take place in the church’s Memorial Garden. A celebration of her life will be held in New Jersey this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mercedes’ memory to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish or to a charity of one’s choice.
